The Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) was founded in the fall of 1965 as a non-profit, non-partisan, interracial community-based social service/civil rights organization. The local affiliate is one of over 90 affiliates of the National Urban League. The IUL offers talent development programs and opportunities for scholarships.

The mission of the IUL is to assist African Americans, other minorities, and disadvantaged individuals to achieve social and economic equality.

The IUL employs a five-point strategy tailored to local needs in order to implement the mission of our movement: 1.) Education and Youth Empowerment. 2.) Economic Empowerment. 3.) Health and Quality of Life Empowerment. 4.) Civic Engagement and Leadership Empowerment. 5.)Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment.

The IUL runs multiple programs intended to help individuals find career success and attain the training to advanced economically:

New Beginnings: The New Beginnings Program is designed to help individuals, age 18 and older, successfully transition from assistance, incarceration, unemployment or underemployment to self-sufficiency.

Professional Advantage Program: The Professional Advantage Program is geared towards assisting individuals with college degrees, professional certifications, and/or at least 10 years of verifiable professional work experience that have struggled with securing employment. The program assists individuals 18 years of age and older who are unemployed or underemployed in Marion County or surrounding counties.

CARE Program: Community Access & Reintegration Effort (CARE) Program is designed to transition returning citizens back into the community with support in acquiring and retaining employment and reducing recidivism.

Training Works Program: The program assists individuals 18 years of age and older who are unemployed or underemployed in Marion County or surrounding counties, and desire to complete short-term training in high-demand industries.
